Tierr@_de_N@die: After the first pedestrian killed in an accident involving a self-driving car in Tempe (Arizona) several questions arise concerning reliability, safety and how policymakers should define the right frame to develop this new technology. Some of this questions are addressed in this article.
Policymakers need to work more closely with academics and manufacturers to design appropriate regulations. This is extremely challenging because the research cuts across many disciplines.
